This is the legit checklist of the foreign Symposium on "The position of Nuclear Engineering for an doubtful destiny" which was once hung on No vember five and six, 1980, at Keidanren corridor in Tokyo, in reference to the 20 th Anniversary of the Nuclear Engineering division, school of Engineering, collage of Tokyo. 8 experts from worldwide have been invited to give a contribution papers to the symposium, and the professors of our division offered a paper each one. The Symposium was once divided into seven classes, chaired via profes sors of the dep. in line with their specialties. approximately two hundred scientists attended the symposium, and a few of them joined the discussions. The symposium used to be fruitful and extremely profitable from each viewpoint, and hugely evaluated by way of the attendants in addition to through con cerned humans open air. This luck is because of the profitable association and strong functionality of the workers of this symposium, to whom i need to specific my grat itude. I additionally wish that those lawsuits should be invaluable to the experts who're occupied with the doubtful way forward for nuclear engineering in addition to with the function of Universities in that future.

Benedict, who is here today as a guest. At that time I happened to hear from Prof. W. G. Whitman, then the chairman of MIT's Chemical Engineering Department, the story of his organizing the First Geneva Conference in 1954. S. on the presentation of papers on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and with this understanding in mind he started the Conference. Thus, the peaceful use of nuclear energy started with international cooperation even between the West and the East. In 1957 this led to the creation of the IAEA as a UN organization for international cooperation toward the peaceful use of nuclear energy and toward security for the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Bhabha of India was a vice-president of the Conference, representing Asia's advanced country in nuclear energy. This conference was the first one to which Japan sent a large official delegation and presented 20 K. OSHIMA papers on Japanese activities in nuclear energy. I delivered the speech of Commissioner I. Ishikawa of the Japanese Atomic Energy Commission on his behalf at the general session, and that was my first experience in presenting a paper at an official international conference of the UN.

By the early 1980s these plants will have a capacity of 2 million SWUs per year, with the possibility of expansion to 10 million. S. 8 million. This process has also been chosen for use in Japan, with a projected capacity of 250,000 SWU/yr by 1985 and one to two million by 1990. Figure 8 is a schematic diagram of a gas centrifuge. It consists of a rotor made of material with high strength-to-density ratio, such as aluminum alloy, rotating inside of an evacuated casing. UF 6 gas in the rotor is subjected to centrifugal acceleration thousands of times greater than gravity.
