S. delegation to the United Nations. 1946 Eleanor becomes chairperson of the United Nations Human Rights Commission, which begins work on a declaration of human rights. 1948 The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is presented to the United Nations General Assembly. It is adopted on December 10. 1961 Eleanor becomes the chairperson of the President’s Commission on the Status of Women.
